alesco participates initiative "Fair Company"

alesco joined in May the initiative „Fair Company" (((LINK http://www.karriere.de/fair-company))) from the Handelsblatt publishing house. Members commit themselves voluntarily, in the use of interns in the company to meet minimum standards.

This means for alesco:

-no replacing of full-time positions with interns

- no false promise for applicants to full-time jobs with an internship,

- no false announcing of full-time jobs for trainees

-to compensate the work of the trainees adequately!

-to offer the Internships primarily for orientation and training during the training phase as well as

"Here at alesco, these standards have long been traditional, but with the accession to the" Fair Company "initiative, we would like to make these standards transparent and verifiable," says managing director Philipp Depiereux. Interns at alesco and other  Fair Companies  will be asked after the internship, to prepare and to send the report to the initiative, and thereby the compliance with the regulations will be reviewed.

New website provides information about alesco's environmental protection engagement

Today we at alesco are launching a new website which bundles the documentation of our commitment to environmental and climate protection in one place, at www.carbon-neutral-packaging.com. The topics covered by this new portal include environmental protection measures in manufacturing processes and the minimisation of CO2 emissions throughout the whole company.

Solvent recovery systems, bio-films and green electricity are just three of the many terms that we at alesco will be providing information about on our new portal at http://www.carbon-neutral-packaging.com/.

The portal focuses in particular on the new alesco carbon neutral packaging solutions and the projects and measures implemented in the company in order to ensure that production and administration operate in a more environmentally friendly manner.  However, the website also provides general background information about environmental and climate protection: What causes the Greenhouse Effect? What is a carbon footprint? What is the purpose of emission reduction certificates? You will find the answers to these and many more questions at http://www.carbon-neutral-packaging.com/.

Carbon neutral packaging from alesco

From now on, and at no extra cost, all our compostable bio-film products made from sustainable raw materials will be supplied to customers as certified carbon neutral products. And customers wishing to acquire conventional polyethylene films in a carbon neutral form will simply pay the extra fee for acquiring the emission reduction certificates required for neutralisation.

We commissioned the consulting company ClimatePartner as an independent certifier of our carbon neutral production. Over the course of just six weeks, the Munich-based climate specialists analysed all the production-relevant processes at alesco and calculated a corresponding CO2 footprint. During this analysis, it was an important aspect for us that all the relevant processes, from the generation of raw materials through to the final delivery to the customer, were taken into account in order to obtain as resilient and accurate a CO2 balance for our products as possible.

This footprint serves as the basis for calculating the CO2 output per kilogram of film produced. If an order for film is to be produced carbon neutrally then we at alesco acquire, on behalf of the customer, the necessary emission reduction certificate. Only the actual price of such a certificate is invoiced as an extra charge to the customer. This fee then goes in its entirety to accredited environmental protection projects.

Fruit Logistica: alesco's carbon neutral trade fair stand

alesco will be showcasing its multitude of carbon neutral products at Fruit Logistica in Berlin (4th - 6th February, 2009), but that's not all: even the company's actual presence at the event will be carbon neutral. The entire trade fair stand (hall 8.2, stand B-03), as well as all the processes, production, work and transport associated with alesco's appearance at the trade fair, will have been rendered carbon neutral. "When we talk about the carbon neutrality of our products and the resulting environmental protection, then of course the presentation of this important topic must be carried out carbon neutrally", comments Marketing Managing Director Philipp Depiereux.

The proceeds from the emission reduction certificates (184.03 KB, PDF) acquired in order to ensure the carbon neutrality of the trade fair stand go to a good cause - in this case, alesco is supporting a project encouraging energy production from sustainable biomass sources in India.
